Scaling & Polishing
A scale and polish is professional dental cleaning that targets plaque and tartar build-up. Our professional services will ensure that your teeth are sparkling by the time you leave your dental appointment.
What happens during a scale and polish?
Scaling and polishing form part of a two-step cleaning process that involves removing plaque build-up and smoothing the surface of the teeth. We start by scraping away the bacteria between the teeth, especially in those hard-to-reach areas. Next, we use a high-pressure spray to remove the plaque and a suction tube to remove the excess fluid. During the polish process, we apply a dental scrub to the teeth and polish the surface.
The final step of the dental cleaning includes a fluoride treatment applied to the teeth for 1 minute.
What is fluoride, and why is it necessary for your teeth?
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral compound that strengthens the enamel of the teeth. Small amounts of fluoride are placed in drinking water to combat gum disease and other oral health issues, but it is most commonly used in toothpaste and dental cleanings.
